Promises to Darfur unfulfilled

Competition for scarce resources, such as water and fertile lands, in Sudan's western region of Darfur has led to conflicts that killed more than 300,000 people, according to UN figures.In some parts of Darfur, however, a mix of poverty and lack of development seems to be posing a greater challenge than raging conflicts.Despite the many problems inflicting the region, promises from the international community to support it have gone unfulfilled.There are doubts about whether the Sudanese government can take up development and cure poverty in Darfur on its own.Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow reports from Geneina in West Darfur.
