Metallica invites 10-year-old superfan on stage

Russell Watson has seen the heavy metal band 10 times with his mum, Anne, 45.The pair bonded over the band's music after the death of Russell's dad, Tim, 57, in February 2021. In August 2024, Anne and Russell visited Chicago, Illinois, US, to watch Metallica put on two shows at Soldier Field Stadium.Midway through the second concert, Russell wanted to move closer to the band, Anne said he could so Russell sprinted to the stage.Russell then got onto a friends shoulder at the edge of the stage when Lars Ulrich reached out and pulled him onto the stage.Worried Anne lost sight of Russell for a moment and started asking people in the crowd if they had seen him.A member of the crowd then pointed to the stage and asked "is that your kid?". To Anne's surprise, Russell was on stage sitting on Lars Ulrich's drum kit while he was drumming to 'The Unforgiven'.
