छठ का महापर्व तीन दिन तक मनाया जाता है। छठ पूजा को सूर्य षष्ठी भी कहते हैं। इस तीन दिवसीय त्योहार में छठी मैय्या और सूर्य देव की उपासना की जाती है। छठ की शुरुआत नहाय-खाय से होती है। छठ पूजा के दूसरे दिन खरना होता है। इस दिन अस्त होते सूर्य को अर्घ्य देने की परंपरा है। इसके बाद तीसरे दिन संध्या अर्घ्य पूजन और चौथे दिन उगते सूर्य को अर्घ्य दिया जाता है। इस बार उगते सूर्य को 31 अक्टूबर को अर्घ्य दिया जाएगा। कहते हैं कि उगते सूर्य को अर्घ्य देते समय कुछ विशेष नियमों का ख्याल रखना पड़ता है। The festival of Chhath is celebrated for three days.
