He’s a Malaysian now, and proud of it

14-year-old Gan Chun Kai was in high spirits as he dressed up for a special function at the Home Ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya. Since 2013, his adoptive parents Gan Soon Lee and Looi Mei Fong have been embroiled in a wrangle with the National Registration Department because their son is not a Malaysian citizen. Chun Kai was one of the 34 individuals under 21 years of age who were finally awarded their citizenship at the event in Putrajaya on Friday.
