Congress named Ajay Rai as its candidate from Varanasi against PM Narendra Modi for the Lok Sabha elections 2019. The announcement also ended speculation about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's candidature from Varanasi. In 2014, Ajay Rai had secured the 3rd position following PM Narendra Modi and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
