Naroda Patia riots case: SC stays hearing of Maya Kodnani's appeal in Gujarat HC

The Supreme Court stayed proceedings in the Gujarat High Court on appeals filed by the convicts in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riots case for two months in which former Minister Maya Kodnani was awarded life sentence. The government has barred Greenpeace India from receiving foreign funds, alleging that it has prejudicially affected the economic interest of the state. Stating that peace was "prerequisite" for development, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today strongly pitched for reconciliation with Pakistan. Former state chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday appealed to farmers to not commit suicide and demanded that the government provide immediate relief to the farmers. China said its "huge dispute" with India over Arunachal Pradesh is an "undeniable fact".
