The couple got converted to Islam, since Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur who refused to divorce him. She has two children , Esha and Ahana, with her husband Dharmendra. She has appeared in more than 150 movies. During her career, Hema Ji received 11 nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and won the award in 1972. Well in 2000, Malini won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and also the Padma Shri Award.
