Government announces steep hike in railway fares of 14.2%, freight rates hiked by 6.5% - Tv9 Gujarati

Narendra Modi government in a pre-budget move, hiked railway fares by 14.2 per cent while a 6.5 per cent increase in freight rates to garner Rs 8,000 crore a year. Announcing the decision, Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda said, "I was forced to implement the order that was done by my predecessor. I am only withdrawing the withholding order."
